The previous page and the photo at the left are
of the fire department and homecoming in days
gone by.

The homecoming was usually a four day event
and was supported by the village and
surrounding area.  The district was divided into
four parts and each took a night to supply baked
goods and do the work in the eats stand.  Each
year your section would move up a night so a
different part had a different night each year.

Before the eats stand was built, a large tent
would be erected and it worked fine when the
weatherman cooperated.  However, on a rainy
evening, you might get wet and have muddy feet.
The pop was cooled in tubs of ice and your
hands would get cold serving the cans.
The tickets for the rides sold for "ten rides for $1.00" in advance.    But just like everything else, the price
went up.  So did the cost for insurance and before long it was almost impossible to have rides.  Today we
celebrate with a one day/night event.  The crowds are not as large but now there is a car show and you can
still watch the parade as it travels through town.  They say what goes around comes around so maybe some
day, in the future, we will go back to the 4 day event.  If not, it's a good thing, as Martha says.
The following pictures show the fire department as it is today.
This is the newest truck in the
fleet.  It is a 2006 Chevy
C5500 made by the
Rosenbauer Company.  It is
a 4 X 4 and  can pump at the
rate of 1,000 gallons per
minute.  It will be used by the
paramedics and is set up for
trama.

This picture was taken soon
after it arrived and it was
lettered soon after.
This is a 1996 E-1 Cyclone 2 Rescue 2202.  It carries the jaws of life and is used by the paramedics along
with the usual fire equipment.
This truck is a 1983 Duplex
Chassis and was originally an
aerial truck for Miami, Florida.
It was cut down and the rear
wheels moved to make it the
tanker it is today.

It has 3500 gallon capacity
and is a workhorse in the
demands put on it.
