In 1945 the town council
appointed Bob Mallernee to
assist in the organization of a
community fire department.
The equipment owned at that
time consisted of a half-ton
truck and a 30-gallon
soda-acid tank.  The group
was to solicit funds in the
amount of $1,400.  to equip a
small truck with a 250 gallon
front-mount pump, water tank,
high pressure hose, new tires
and batteries and a fresh
paint job for the truck.  During
the years 1945 to 1950 this
equipment has saved an
estimated $44,000 in
property , with only $1,500 loss.  In 1948 the proceeds from the homecoming was used to buy more and better fire
equipment.  These revenues have purchased two large heavy-duty tank pumpers, completely equipped with siren,
lights, 1600 ft. of hose, ladders and much more.  In 1949 the department constructed a new town building which
houses the Fire Dept., Council chambers and the Township Trustees meeting rooms.  All equipment is totally debt
free.  From the Free Press Standard.
This is a picture of a group watching the entertainment at the homecoming.  Where do you suppose
they got all those chairs??
Do you recognize anyone.....I do!
